IMAGINE GROUP

At Imagine, we specialize in creating modern and elegant architectural and decorative solutions using materials such as marble, granite, and quartz.

Today, we’ll discuss granite, a plutonic igneous rock with a granular texture composed mainly of feldspar and quartz. In fact, according to the International Union of Geological Sciences, granites are rocks with a quartz content ranging from 20% to 60%.

This material forms when magma solidifies deep beneath the Earth’s crust, under high pressures and through slow cooling.

Advantages of Granite as a Construction or Interior Decoration Material

  • Manipulable: Granite is a dimension rock, meaning it can be cut and polished into specific dimensions and shapes.
  • Resistant: Some of its major advantages include superior hardness, resistance to wear, corrosion, and compression forces compared to marble. Similar to quartz, it has grade 7 hardness on the Mohs scale.
  • Variety of Colors: Granite comes in diverse colors such as gray, beige, black, white, brown, light red, green, and others.

Granite in Ancient Times

Granite has been used since prehistoric times. Its toughness and resistance to erosion make it very useful in construction, and many cultures preferred it over limestone.

Initially, working with granite was challenging, and it was almost impossible to polish. As a result, surviving granite buildings have a rough appearance, even though they are well-carved.

The King’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid of Giza, for example, was constructed with large blocks of granite. Granite also covers the other two pyramids of Giza.

It wasn’t only used for buildings; archaeologists have found vessels made of granite from the early dynasties in Saqqara, Egypt.

Current Uses of Granite

Today, granite is used in the construction industry for cladding facades and architecture in general, as an ornamental material for crafting figures and monuments, and in the manufacturing industry.

At Imagine, we use exotic or classic granite in the design of modern kitchens, furniture, and spaces for businesses or homes. We blend comfort, design, beauty, and the nobility of stone, reflecting an environment in line with the latest architectural trends, with imported products of the highest quality at a fair price.
